Sella Development for Education and Progress (SeDEP) is a non-profit, non-political, community-based organization founded on November 10, 2002 by visionary students from the Sella Limba Chiefdom. Guided by the motto “We Learn and Serve”, SeDEP exists to unite, empower, and uplift communities through education, welfare, and sustainable development.
Organization Structure: SeDEP is a well-structured organization, and its leadership is structured as follows;
i. President, Vice President, Chief Executive Officer, and the Secretary General, and vice versa, which is normally referred to as the Presidency.
ii. Followed by the national Advising Committee (NAC), which includes the presidency, all former presidents & Vice Presidents, Chairmen, and Ladies as well as other senior former executive members. This is the highest decision-making body of the organization, some critical and very important decisions of the organization cannot be made by the sitting president or the presidency without consulting and or approve the NAC.
iii. The National Executive Committee (NEC). This is the operational working body of the organization, it carries the day-to-day activities of the organization.
iv. The branch executives, each branch of the organization, has it comprehensive executive that runs the affairs of the branch.
HOW TO BECOME A SeDEP MEMBER
- Show interest in one of the branch chairmen, secretary general, or the national secretariat
- Pay for the registration form; you will be given access to the form either electronically or manually. (All necessary information is available)
- Complete the registration form and submit it to the branch secretary or the national secretariat
- The form will be processed by the national secretariat, and you will be informed accordingly.
- You will be informed to pay your monthly subscriptions and welfare contributions, a summary of membership categories, and the monthly payment. Membership Category: The organization has three distinct category of membership i. Ordinary membership monthly contributions: Le 30 per month + welfare contributions 20 per month = Le 50, ii. Executive membership: Le 50 per month + welfare contributions 20 per month = Le 70, iii. Honorable Membership: Le 80 per month + welfare contributions 20 per month = Le 100
Please note that the monthly contribution is constitutionally compulsory; a member can ONLY qualify to be a welfare recipient if his or her monthly dues are up to date. And a newly registered member MUST have paid for a period of six months before he/she is entitle to a plan welfare benefit.
Also Note That: a member shall lose his or her membership where he or she fails to adhere to his or her monthly financial obligations and fails to participate in the activities of the organization for a period of two years or more, as indicated in the 2022 Constitution.
The main objective of the organization is to give back to the community where we were originally rooted (Sella Limba Chiefdom and Karene district at large). We do a lot of charity on education, infrastructure, sport, and health. We also engaged in entertainment, tourism, and hospitality. Usually, we go to Kamakwie every December, most times from the 22nd to the 29th of December, every year. During this period we organize a lot of activities and conclude with our annual general meeting (AGM)
Education: Scholarships, literacy campaigns, debates, and quiz competitions to build knowledge and skills.
Welfare: Support for members during life milestones, illness, bereavement, and disasters.
Agriculture: Promotes sustainable farming aligned with Sierra Leone’s Feed Salone initiative.
Health: Supports projects like the Kamakwie Blood Bank and health awareness campaigns.
Youth & Gender Empowerment: Leadership training, equality campaigns, and mentorship programs.
Community Development: Infrastructure projects, tourism, and cultural activities that bring people together.
